How to get Android File Transfer to work
Dec 01, 2015 If you don’t see the above-mentioned options in your Storage & USB settings, make sure to enable USB debugging and then follow this tricky sequence (screenshots also below): Detach USB cable from device Enable Developer Mode by going to Settings About Phone (at the very bottom usually) press on. It stopped showing up w File Transfer after upgrade to Android 11, tethering, charging etc works normally for me. Also had problems with Audio replay and touchscreen sensitivity, couldn't press some buttons sometimes, most near edges of screen, like sent a message. According to Android.com: Browse the files and folders on your Android device, add folders, copy files up to 4GB to or from your Mac, delete files, and more. As a workaround, install an FTP server on your Mac, and transfer the file via Wi-Fi or mobile data. OR, via adb pull (adb pull /storage/sdcard0/ dir here ) using the Android SDK.
If your Android phone won’t turn on, here is how you can use the software to recover data: Step 1: Launch Wondershare Dr.Fone. On your desktop computer or laptop, open Wondershare Dr.Fone. Click on Data Recovery on the left column.
There are a few reasons why you might be getting an error message when trying to get files onto your device:
- USB cable doesn't support file transfer
- Device not set up to accept files via USB
- You have Samsung's Kies file transfer installed
- Your micro USB port is broken (sorry, can't help you with that one)
Step 1 – Enable file transfer on your Android device
This is the very first thing you must do to ensure that transferring files to your Android device is even possible.
To enable USB file transfer go to 'Settings' > 'Storage' > Tap on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of your screen > 'USB computer connection' > Tick the box next to 'Media device (MTP)
If you think that your problem with transferring files is software-related, try connecting your device via USB to your computer, check 'Camera (PTP)' and uncheck it again. This seems to work for some people.
Step 1.1 – just happened to me on stock Android Marshmallow 6.0
Updating the post right after fixing the issue on the Nexus 6P.
If you don't see the above-mentioned options in your Storage & USB settings, make sure to enable USB debugging and then follow this tricky sequence (screenshots also below):
Android File Transfer Download
- Detach USB cable from device
- Enable Developer Mode by going to Settings > About Phone (at the very bottom usually) > press on Build Number repeatedly until the pop-up appears
- Go to Settings > Developer Options
- Enable USB debugging
- Lock device (turn screen off)
- Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable
- Unlock your Android device
- Swipe down to see notifications and press on 'USB for charging'
- From the pop-up, select File transfers
- Lock the device and unlock it again
Using this method you are, basically, allowing your phone's security mechanisms to accept file transfers via USB. For some reason this option is not available without enabling developer options, although it should be.
This method should work on all Android devices running stock Marshmallow 6.0+, like the new Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X. Typora 0 9 9 31 30. Step 2 – Uninstall Samsung's Kies file transfer software (skip if not installed)
Samsung's file transfer software often causes interferences with the native Android file transfer. To uninstall Kies you will need to download the installer first (clicking the link will start the download), and just then select the 'uninstall' option within the file package.

Step 3 – Check your USB cable
Not all USB cables are created equal: Some are able to transfer files, some are not. To make sure you got a cable that can do that, go ahead and take the cable that came in the box together with your Android device. There cables are usually able to handle file transfers.

In case you can't find another USB cable to try if it works, you should check out AirDroid. This nice piece of software allows you to transfer files to your Android device with no cable at all.
If you really need a USB cable for file transfers, get yourself a good cable, it will last you quite a while (and they are quite cheap as well).

Q: Unable to view photos from Gallery
I was able to view photos from Gallery in my Android phone while it was connected to PC through USB. But I am not able to see them in my phone. How can I view the pictures on my phone directly?
Sometimes users would meet such a problem that they cannot view pictures in Android Gallery after taking or downloading photos with their devices. If you are also one of these users, you must want to know the reasons for this issue and the solutions to solve this problem, right?

Just take it easy and read on. This article will give you all the answers.
Why Can't I View Pictures in Android Gallery?
Why the issue that pictures disappear from Gallery happens? The reasons are various but there two main causes actually:
1. The caches cause the malfunction
Once you open and manage the images in Gallery, there must be some caches created. And certainly, the caches that the Gallery App generates one time are very small. But if you don't clear them regularly, these caches will become a huge trash which would take up a lot of space of the device. What's worse, the caches will cause some issues also. For example, you will be unable to open and use the Gallery application smoothly and fail to view the pictures that you have saved in it.
2. The images are saved as in Nomedia file
A .nomedia file is basically a blank file placed inside a folder with '.nomedia' as extension. When the device detects such kind of file, it would not scan the folder so the files like photos in that folder won't appear in the Gallery App. Thus, you need to make sure whether you have put the wanted pictures in the Nomedia file when you cannot see them in Gallery.

What to Do If I Cannot See the Photos on Gallery?
Normally, to make the pictures visible in this case, you have two choices:
Option 1. Clear the caches of Gallery
The most common situation is that the pictures in Gallery are corrupted due to the App caches so you are unable to open and view them successfully. In order to solve this problem, you need to delete the caches and useless data of the Gallery App. This would be easy:
Step 1. Go to the Home screen of your device and click on the Settings icon on it to open the application.
Step 2. In the Settings section, you need to find out the option Apps or Application Management and tap on it to display all the installed Apps on your device.
Step 3. Now you need to find the Gallery option from the listed applications and click on it to enter its App info page. On this page, you can see several options. Just tap on Clear cache and Clear data to remove the useless data from your device.
Option 2. Rename the Nomedia folder
It is possible that you have saved the photos in a .nomedia folder unwittingly or designedly to hide the image. So now, if you want to see them in the Gallery as usual, you need to delete them from the Nomedia folder or rename the folder to make them visible in Gallery. Then how to achieve this goal? You need to turn to an application- ES File Explorer. The whole process could be:
Step 1. Download and install the ES File Explorer on your Android phone.

If you want to hide some images or other files on your phone, you can also add a folder and name it '.nomedia' file again and move the files you wish to hide into the folder so that others cannot find the data on your phone.
